The Road (Oprah's Book Club)

The Road - Cormac McCarthy Are we still the good guys? he said.
Yes. We're still the good guys.
And we always will be.
Yes. We always will be.

This book haunted me for days after I finished it. This tale of a father and son's journey through a post-apocalyptic world is frightening, yet beautiful. The minimal language only adds to the bleak reality of the world that we are shown. This book had an emotional hold on me, and I teared up in a few spots. This is not a "happily ever after" story. But as I finished, I felt a strange sense of hope that even though all this had happened, it would still be okay in the end.

The Vampire Lestat (Vampire Chronicles)

The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice I have to say that I enjoyed this book more than its predecessor. I just love Lestat. And I thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning more of his background and how he came to be. Anne Rice kept me up into the night once again. Long live the Brat Prince!

Interview With the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles)

Interview With The Vampire - Anne Rice I remember staying up into the wee hours of the night reading this. I was hooked. I had seen the movie tons of times before reading the book. While I love the movie, the book is, of course, much better. My only gripe with the book is that Claudia got on my last nerve on more than one occasion. But overall, a great vampire story and a beautiful gothic tale.

Great and Terrible Beauty

A Great and Terrible Beauty - Libba Bray Oh, what can I say about this book? Um, it's amazing! I checked it out from the library and finished it in around 2 days. I then bought a copy so I could reread it. I even named my puppy Gemma. The bottom line: Read this book!

Lord of the Flies (Penguin Great Books of the 20th Century)

Lord of the Flies - William Golding I've lost count of how many times I've read this book. But it's one of my favorites. English schoolboys are stranded on a deserted island. You know something's going to go down.
